Serbia

Mihajlo Mitrović was a Serbian and Yugoslavian architect, urbanist, author and architecture critic. He was a professor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade. During his lengthy career, he designed more than 170 structures. His best well known designs are the Western City Gate and the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog, both in New Belgrade. As urbanist, he was the chief author of the general urbanistic projects of Zaječar, Trstenik, Pirot, Niš, Banja Koviljača, Lazarevac and Vrnjačka Banja.

Danilo Vladisavljević was a Serbian architect in the transition period from the 19th to 20th century. He is remembered to have contributed to the uniqueness of the Belgrade urban core.

Nikola Dobrović was a Serbian architect, teacher, and urban planner. Dobrović designed a number of buildings including the Yugoslav Ministry of Defence building, later destroyed during the Kosovar War by NATO bombings, the New Belgrade planned city or various buildings in Prague and around Dubrovnik.

Leonid Aleksandrovich Vesnin was a Russian and Soviet architect. He was the eldest of the Vesnin brothers, who were influential in developing Constructivist architecture.

Vyacheslav Konstantinovich Oltarzhevsky was a Russian and Soviet architect. He was one of the first Soviet experts in skyscraper construction, notable for his collaboration with Arkady Mordvinov on Hotel Ukraina (Moscow). Oltarzhevsky, one of the few architects hit by the Great Purge in 1938, survived it and returned to active practice in 1940s.

The Vesnin brothers: Leonid Vesnin (1880–1933), Viktor Vesnin (1882–1950) and Alexander Vesnin (1883–1959) were the leaders of Constructivist architecture, the dominant architectural school of the Soviet Union in the 1920s and early 1930s. Exact estimation of each brother's individual input to their collaborative works remains a matter of dispute and conjecture; nevertheless, historians noted the leading role of Alexander Vesnin in the early constructivist drafts by the Vesnin brothers between 1923 and 1925. Alexander also had the most prominent career outside of architecture, as a stage designer and abstract painter.

Konstantin Stepanovich Melnikov was a Russian architect and painter. His architectural work, compressed into a single decade (1923–1933), placed Melnikov on the front end of 1920s avant-garde architecture. Although associated with the Constructivists, Melnikov was an independent artist, not bound by the rules of a particular style or artistic group. In the 1930s, Melnikov refused to conform with the rising Stalinist architecture, withdrew from practice and worked as a portraitist and teacher until the end of his life.

Ilya Alexandrovich Golosov was an architect from the late Russian Empire and early Soviet Union. A leader of Constructivism in 1925-1931, Ilya Golosov later developed his own style of early stalinist architecture known as postconstructivism. Не was a brother of Panteleimon Golosov.

United States

Frank Williams was an American architect who worked as a lead architect on nearly 20 buildings in Manhattan, including Trump Palace Condominiums, 515 Park Avenue, and the W Hotels in Times Square. Williams graduated from UC Berkeley in 1961, and received a master's degree from Harvard in 1965. He moved to New York City and taught at Columbia University for the next few years.

El Lissitzky was a Russian and Soviet artist, active as a painter, illustrator, designer, printmaker, photographer, and architect. He was an important figure of the avant-garde, helping develop suprematism with his mentor, Kazimir Malevich, and designing numerous exhibition displays and propaganda works for the Soviet Union.
